About DWA
DWA was formed in 2004 by Dave Whyte, after he had spent two years working freelance in the animation industry, most notably as a director on all three series of the award winning animated BBC comedy Monkey Dust. Having started his career on a comedy show - and as an inherently puerile individual with a subscription (and occasional contributions) to Viz magazine - Dave decided that comedy was the area of television that most interested him. He continues to work almost exclusively within this field, although he has created an increased amount of work for factual/documentary programmes in the last few years, such as Panorama, Pearl Harbour: Minute By Minute and Curse Of The Ancients. He has also dabbled in work for music videos, advertisments (Nike x Mbappe x Aardman), short films at attractions (Paris Aquarium), website design (Various Artists Limited, Honda) and children's series (The Amazing World Of Gumball).
Comedy projects Dave has worked on over the last two decades include: The Last Leg, Late Night Lycett, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, A League Of Their Own, Hypothetical, Joe Lycett's Got Your Back, Best In The World, Late Night Mash/The Mash Report, Have I Got News For You, Harry Hill's Alien Fun Capsule, Witless, Don't Hate The Playaz, Epic Gameshow, The IT Crowd, Peep Show, Benidorm, 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Room 101, Pete Versus Life, 10 O'Clock Live, Duck Quacks Don't Echo and Toast Of London. Recent DWA contractors include: Open Mike, Objective, CPL, Rangabee, Broke & Bones, Rumpus, Expectation, Little Gem, Barcroft, Talkback, Hat Trick, Avalon, VAL, Zeppotron and the BBC
In 2010, Dave was one of four people nominated for a BAFTA in the Breakthrough Talent category, for his prominent graphics work on Channel 4's Pete Versus Life. The following year he was picked as one of forty-two representatives of UK film and TV talent for the BAFTA Brits To Watch event in Los Angeles - where his work was presented to both Hollywood and (genuine) British royalty. He even had a chat about the merits of Peep Show with a future King!
DWA have entered the Broadcast 5s football tournament several times since 2012 and despite almost always reaching the semis or final, are yet to claim the trophy. 2024 is our year though!
